Welcome to Eden! This blog is dedicated to gardening in the
San Francisco Bay Area. If you are new to the Bay Area, this might help you
transfer your gardening skills and knowledge; if you are a long time gardener
in the area, I can learn from you.
By now you have probably encountered the clay soil and
summer drought conditions (sometimes sustained drought conditions) that
characterize the area. You may wonder why I refer to Eden, with its images of a
lush, verdant garden, in direct contrast with the dry climate, brown hills, and
small-leaved plants that you see. But, over the years, I have come to
appreciate the fabulous Mediterranean climate; the tenacious, drought-tolerant
native plants; and the subtle seasonal differences. As my ideas of gardens and
gardening have been challenged and transformed, the Bay Area has become a type
of Eden.
I have been a technical writer in the software industry for my
profession (now retired); and earned a certificate in Landscape Horticulture from Merritt
College for my hobby. I enjoy the science and art of growing things, and the
community of those who share that interest. I thrive on taking field trips,
observing nature, and trying new things. I love learning about gardening tools
and techniques; the history of gardening and plant exploration; and garden
design. My life quest is to learn how to be (not just do), and to sit at the
feet of the Master Gardener. I would love your company!

I am a sometimes free lance graphic designer. I would like to use one of your photos in a cover design for the next volume of the Native Chapbook poetry series published by Yak Press. Yak Press is a (very) small independent press edited and published by my friend in the high desert of Southern California. She is developing this poetry series around the native flora of California featuring a different species on each cover. We are currently producing the sixth volume. While the chapbooks do not realize a profit, the publisher is not one to stint on following correct copyright procedure.

I would like to inquire on any fees and credit policy you have in place for the use of your image of the Tonyon bush in bloom featured in your blog entry of January 23, 2013. I am interested in a full size uncropped version of the image labelled "Tonyon blossoms in spring".
I hope to hear from you soon.
